Community First Development is a First Nations’ community development and research organisation that creates positive change in and with First Nations’ communities. The name of the organisation reflects its founding approach; to place community self-determination at the core of all partnerships and projects. Community First Development partners with communities to make great things happen. Projects that deliver new skills, stronger health and education, cultural preservation, and business and economic outcomes to communities are supported by a strong research and valuation base.

Community First Development is seeking to appoint two non-executive directors to join our board in 2025. One non-executive director will bring deep expertise in finance, ideally holding CPA or CA qualifications. The other non-executive director will have strong experience engaging with high net wealth individuals and organisations that support through philanthropy. Community First Development directors are individually responsible to ensure that the board fulfills its role and comply with their legal duties and obligations as directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend industry, government, donor events or meetings, as required and relevant.

  • Participate in regular board and individual performance evaluations.

  • Undertake professional development.

  • Attend the annual general meeting (scheduled at the same time as a Board meeting).

  • Engaging in other board-related activities as might reasonably be required.

  • Attend all board meetings.

  • Participate in at least one board committee.

CORE CRITERIA

The successful applicants must be able to meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in one or more of the following essential areas and in the context of an organisation of the size and scale of Community First Development.

  • Demonstrated commercial acumen at a strategic level gained through recent direct commercial experience in a comparable business to Community First Development.

  • The ability to critically assess company financial and operational performance through the application of skills, experience and personal qualities.

  • Experience at board level including a sound working knowledge of corporate governance systems and frameworks and an ability to apply that support to Community First Development.
