Deadly Runners, NSW

Volunteer, Emily, and Senior Community Development Officer, Ruth, enjoyed meeting with Georgia Weir (nee Gleeson) and Michael Weir from Deadly Runners to talk about expanding the community’s programs.

Deadly Runners, based in Narooma, New South Wales, invited Community First Development to support their strategic planning efforts. CEO Georgia Weir (née Gleeson) welcomed volunteer Emma and Senior Community Development Officer Ruth to collaborate with the team on their strategic planning.

Deadly Runners is a grassroots First Nations’ initiative founded by Georgia in 2014. Wanting to share the experience of how running made her feel and changed her life, Georgia volunteered to coach locals to run 5km. Her coaching inspired people across the community to keep up consistent training and work towards achieving their personal goals.

Georgia’s work has made such an impact on the community that it has since grown into a broader movement supporting health, education, and opportunities for First Nations’

People. This is Emily’s first project with Community First Development. She is working closely with Georgia to develop a comprehensive strategic plan and a business plan that will support the expansion of Deadly Runners’ programs across more locations.

Deadly Runners is 100% First Nations’ owned and operated—and remains deeply committed to community-led solutions. With increased demand for its programs, Georgia envisions a structured approach to scaling operations while staying true to the movement’s

grassroots values. We are honoured to be part of the critical steps that Deadly Runners is taking to achieve this vision.

We look forward to continuing this exciting project with Deadly Runners and seeing their programs grow.

Our running programs, education and leadership programs have been successfully delivered over a number of years. We are currently experiencing growth that sees us taking the next step in our journey. This growth requires us to have a more strategic approach to how we roll our programs and services out in different locations in order to meet the demand.
