Menzies Aboriginal Corporation is successful in receiving funding to upgrade community houses

Menzies Aboriginal Corporation, located in Menzies town, Western Australia.

We are excited to share that Menzies Aboriginal Corporation (MAC) has successfully secured a $900,000 grant to upgrade seven of their community houses.

The Social Housing Economic Recovery Package Grants Program grant will be used to repair, refurbish, and improve the homes and living conditions of the local Aboriginal families residing within Menzies, which will improve health conditions, social conditions, and general well-being.

Community First Development provided guidance on obtaining the funding, while MAC owned and drove this work by researching funding opportunities and establishing contacts and support that may assist them moving forward.

Community First Development has been partnering with MAC, a not-for-profit organisation providing housing and support services to Aboriginal people in the Menzies townsite, Western Australia, since 2009.

MAC is one of the few Aboriginal organisations in the region that still has full control over its community assets. It owns residential housing and other premises, including several 1890’s heritage railway cottages, which they also plan to restore and utilise as short-term accommodation for the tourism industry.

A big congratulations to MAC, Community First Development Officer Sharon, who worked closely with MAC on this work, skilled volunteer Remko and his wife Marg, who worked remotely on this project from Victoria. This is a massive win. We look forward to sharing updates about this exciting project with you soon!
